After the successful completion of intensive 8-month training at the Israel Defense Forces, Gilad Millo’s son, Omer, has officially joined the qualified paratrooper soldiers. Gilad who is a Kenyan Singer and ex-Israeli diplomat shared the news of his son’s achievement on social media expressing his pride and delight.
Omer marched alongside his fellow soldiers covering 45 Km to Jerusalem to receive their Red Barrets in a ceremony to officiate their transition into the soldiers’ team.
“This morning following a 45km night march to Jerusalem and 8 months of intensive training, the IDF Paratroopers (Israel Defense Forces) arrived in Jerusalem to receive their Red Barrets and officially join the family of Paratroopers” he stated
In photos shared by his father, Omer is spotted with a scarf of the Kenyan flag around his neck and Gilad confirms that he had it on throughout the night march. According to Gilad, this was this was his son’s way of expressing his love for Kenya.
“With #Kenya always in his heart, my Son Omer completed the journey with a scarf of the Kenyan flag around his neck (probably the first Israeli paratrooper to ever do this” he wrote on his post
While seeing his son off months ago, Gilad revealed that joining the Israel Army was his son’s personal choice since he was determined to serve his country- a decision that made his father was proud of.
His achievement is a reflection of his father’s footsteps who served as the Israeli government spokesman and later a deputy head of mission at the Israeli Embassy in Kenya before he left Israel’s Foreign Ministry in 2008.
In a heartfelt message to his son, Gilad expressed how the entire family is looking forward to seeing Omer following this great milestone in his career life.
“We haven’t seen you since you joined the army in December and we are holding our breath bursting with pride till we can all be together again 🇮🇱🇰🇪 We Love you and miss you” he wrote
