A family in Kisumu-Kenya has finally buried the ashes of their kin Lucy Atieno who is believed to have committed suicide by throwing herself on the railway line in Vienna Austria 1 month ago.
The burial proceedings were held in her hometown Seme, Reru, on Saturday, August 29 after her ashes arrived in the country from in Vienna on Friday, August 28.
Close sources had earlier revealed that the cremation was done at Wien Bestatting Funeral Home and Crematorium in Vienna on July 29th as per the family’s wish.
Taking to social media, her friend Nyangi Gimala shared the news of the burial alongside photos captured at the event.
“You know I can not do this, trying to be strong but the memories keep popping up. What will ever do without you?…I am so hurt I can’t believe our ashes are home already,” Nyangi wrote
Following the tragic incident that happened on 5th July, Atieno’s brother James Auka hinted that her sister might have been battling depression and had made a call to the police before she threw herself.
“In her calls to the police and her friend, she said life had become difficult after her business went down and that she was no longer able to carter for her needs and those of some of those of her siblings who kept on requesting her for money back home” her brother explained
According to a report issued by police in Vienna, the 35-year-old threw herself on the railway line at the Bahnhof Atzgersdorf train station in the 12th district of Vienna.
Following her death, a section of Kenyans in Diaspora called upon those who have family abroad to always check up on their well being instead of always making demand for financial support without caring about the struggles they encounter.
