Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth has ditched President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party after he was floored by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko for the ticket.
Kenneth has just announced that he will run as an independent candidate in a KTN press briefing.
Kenneth was involved in a heated campaign with Sonko to an extent that the senator claimed some powerful people in the Jubilee administration were financing him.
Sonko picked Igathe as his running mate on Tuesday after intense consultations and interviews conducted by senior State House officials.
The senator floored former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth in the Jubilee primaries and will fly the party’s flag in the elections.
Kenneth will also likely unveil his running mate as he keeps the race for city governor hotter and livelier. He will join Sonko and former Raila Odinga aide Miguna Miguna as they seek to unseat incumbent Evans Kidero.
