Kenyan Born US Marine Drowns In Arizona While Trying To Rescue a Girl


Sad news for the Kenyan community in America Diaspora.

Chris Masakah 35, a US Marine, died in Arizona where he was on holiday with his family. Media reports that Chris drowned while rescuing a young girl of Canadian descent from suffocating in water.

The girl, who was taken to hospital after divers removed her from the water body, is in a stable condition, doctors said. It was too late by the time they were attempting to save the life of Chris.

Chris is the first born son of Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali.

Mr Robert Ayisi, the elder brother to Hon Shinali and family spokesman is quoted by Daily Nation saying: “We received the news of his (Chris) death from a relative who works with him in the US. Chris lives and works in Illinois State but had travelled to Arizona for a holiday with his family where he met his untimely death,” Mr Ayisi said.

Chris leaves behind a wife and two children. His wife is expecting their third child.

According to the deceased’s father, plans are underway to have his son’s body flown to Kenya for burial.
