Governor Okoth Obado: Yes it’s true Sharon’s baby was mine


More information continue to unfold in regards to the murder of Rongo Univeristy student Sharon Otieno who at the time of her death was seven months pregnant.

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado who has been adversely mentioned admitted that he is the father to the child Sharon was carrying therefore confirming allegations that the county boss was in a relation with the murdered student.

The governor who was questioned by detectives on Tuesday in Kisumu for close to 7 hours, Obado said he did not ask Sharon to do away with the pregnancy as he was ready to take responsibility of the two.

Reports indicate that Sharon wanted the governor to buy her a house in Nairobi but Obado suggested buying her a house or piece of land in Rongo.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor in his postmortem report on the body of Sharon  indicated that she was stabbed several times also penetrating to the baby. Used condoms were also found at the scene of crime suggesting that her killers raped her before committing the heinous act.

Addressing the media for the very first time since the story unfolded, Obado called upon government agencies tasked with the responsibility of handling the case to move with speed to ensure justice is delivered.

“I ask all agencies involved to speed up investigations so the killers are brought to book as quickly as possible. I thank people of Migori, my supporters and the general electorate and all well wishers who have been with me in prayers. I call on them to continue praying for me in all endeavors,” said the governor.

Obado denied any improvement in the murder of Sharon saying he is even ready to provide more information to the police if required to do so.

“As a law abiding citizen, I have nothing, and absolutely nothing, to do with the cruel death of Sharon. Yesterday (Tuesday), I recorded a statement in Kisumu with the DCIO. I would like to say here that I am still ready and willing to give further statements so that real killers of Sharon can be brought to book,” he said.

Accompanied by his wife, Hellen, Son Jerry and daughter Eveline, Obado said the family has not had peace of mind since he was linked to the murder.

“We have come here as a family that has been devastated, ridiculed and embarrassed by the sad news of the demise of Sharon. We are indeed at our very lowest moment in life. Hata usingizi hakuna, hata appetite hakuna (meaning translated as, ‘We have lost sleep and appetite’),” Obado said.

Obado Personal Assistant Micheal Oyamo who is one of the key suspects in the case was presented before IHigh Court Judge Luka Kimaru who read the charges but was not required to take plea and will be held up for a further 14 days pending the completion of investigations.

“You shall or may be charged with murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code of the laws of Kenya.

“The particulars of the offence are that between 3rd and 4th September 2018 at Owande area, Rachuonyo South subcounty within Homa Bay county jointly with others not before court, you murdered Sharon Beryline Otieno. So that is for your information,” added Kimaru.

Cliff Ombeta representing the governor confirmed the allegations that the governor was in a relationship with Sharon but refuted it was not reason enough to link the his client with the murder of Ms Otieno.

“When the photos were circulating in social media long before this, it was not a secret even the people in the county knew about it…there was a relationship. It is a normal thing for people to have a moment of weakness but speaking of murder no,” said Ombeta on KTN news.
