Githae Ousted as Kenya Ambassador to US, Njeri Karago Heading to LA Consulate, As Uhuru Makes Changes


Robinson Njeru Githae has been replaced as the Kenya ambassador to US.

A statement by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma says President Kenyatta has appointed Lazarus Ombai Amayo as the new Kenya ambassador to US. At the same time, Njeri Njiiri Karago will serve at the Los Angeles consulate.

Robinson Githae has been transferred to Vienna, Austria in the same capacity. He was appointed ambassador to the United States by President Uhuru Kenyatta on August 14, 2014 and presented his credentials to then U.S. President Barack Obama on November 18, 2014. This was the first diplomatic posting for Githae.

Lazarus Amayo served as the Kenya Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Previously, he served as the Permanent Representative of Kenya to COMESA, International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Commonwealth, Ag. Permanent Secretary. He holds a Master of Arts degree (MA) in Political Science from the University of Delhi and Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Spicer Memorial College in India.

A total of 18 ambassadors and Consul Generals were affected by the recent shake up.

Michael Mubea is the new Kenyan envoy to Dublin. Kariuki Mugwe has been appointed to Abu Dhabi, while Peter Angore will serve in Algiers.

Barine Mugendi will be posted to Accra and Andrew Kihurani Bern.

Richard Opembe will serve in Madrid while Jackline Yonga has been posted to Rome.

Mwende Mwinzi will serve as envoy to Seoul while Diana Kiambuthi has been appointed envoy to Stockholm.

Lamarron Ole Kaanto has been named to Berlin while Purity Muhindi will be sent to Dakar.

John Mwangemi has been appointed to Djibouti will Mwendwa Musembi has been named envoy to Dubai.
