COVID-19: Kenya Suspends All International Flights Effective 25th March

The Kenyan government has today announced the suspension of all international flights effective of 25th March as a way of countering the spread of coronavirus.

He, however, added that the only cargo flights will be allowed during this period.

“All international flights are suspended effective Wednesday 25th March at midnight. The only exception to this rule are cargo flights whose crew must observer strict guidelines” he stated

Speaking during a press conference at Harambee house Nairobi, health CS Mutahi Kagwe made this announcement after he confirmed 8 more coronavirus cases bringing the number to 15.

In his statement, Kagwe informed that those coming in the country between now till Wednesday will undergo quarantine at their cost at a government facility. He also urged that nationals who wish to evacuate their nationals should do so within this period.

The health CS also urged Kenyans abroad who will not have jetted in the country by the time borders are closed are advised to observe the guidelines issued in the respective countries wherever they are.

He also lamented how Kenyans have been treating the situation lightly by running their businesses, as usual, urging them to treat the matter with some seriousness.

Other directives issued by the government include;

All bars closed indefinitely from midnight; restaurants to remain open but only takeaways to be allowed

All PSVs must adhere to the directive issued on Friday; failure to which the respective Sacco licenses will be revoked.

Religious gatherings suspended until further notice in a bid to tame COVID-19; funerals restricted to 15 family members.
