Citizen TV reporter Dorcas Wangira wins prestigious Michael Elliot Award


Citizen TV reporter, Dorcas Wangira, has been named the winner of the 2019 Michael Elliot Award for Excellence in African Storytelling.

Wangira beat 219 other applicants for the prize with her story “The App and the Cut” done in 2018 and run on KTN news before she moved to Citizen TV.

On Twitter,  Wangira, who specialises on social issues, health, and science, was more than thankful for the win saying;

“I am grateful to everyone who has offered their support, encouragement and trusted me with our greatest currency in Africa: story!” she stated.

Wangira’s feature narrates the plight of girls forced to undergo Female Genital Mutilation. The girls come up with and up with the app which helps them evade the illegal act.

Established in 2016 to honor Michael Elliot, an outstanding editor and philanthropist, is aimed at advancing the work of emerging journalists who strive to improve people’s well being.
