Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil shows power of social media with kind gesture to Kenyan boy

A young Kenyan fan wearing a self-made Arsenal jersey bearing Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil’s number topped trending lists on Tuesday after getting an expected gift from the German footballer.

The popular footballer sent a couple of signed jerseys to the young boy who had made his way to Twitter last year following a tweet by one Eric Njiru who noticed the boy’s love for the Arsenal midfielder.

“I saw this kid today grazing in the streets of Nairobi- a city without really grass for cows. He told me he loves @MesutOzil1088 so much (you can see his shirt). Maybe one day this can reach Ozil and get a real @Arsenal shirt,” Njiru wrote posted on December 3, 2018.

It actually did.

Ozil said that the photo was humbling and in response, sent two jerseys and boots his way.

“The picture of a Kenyan boy with a self-made shirt on Twitter touched me so much.  And look at Lawrence now- it’s so heart-warming to see him and his brothers happy,” wrote Ozil.
