Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o on Thursday posted an advert on a national daily to apologise for Monday’s heckling of ODM Leader Raila Odinga.
Raila was heckled in his visit to Muhoroni, Kisumu County where he had traveled to launch an industrial park.
The Kisumu county boss shunned those who heckled Odinga saying they had been hired and were part of a “band” that had planned to resist development in the lakeside county.
“It is regrettable that a small band of engineered “naysayers” who have deliberately decided to resist development in the county as a whole purely for political mileage decided to embarrass our guests. For this I apologise,” Nyong’o said in the newspaper ad.
Chaos broke out during the visit when Raila stood up to speak about an industrial park the government wants to build in the area. The residents want compensation before the project takes off on their land.
Raila was heckled by angry residents some of whom carried placards ridiculing his handshake with Uhuru.
