7-year-old Ugandan rapper nominated for prestigious American award 


At just seven years old, Patrick Ssenyonjo, popular known as Fresh Kid has already bagged his first nomination.

Fresh Kid has been nominated in the US based Carolina Music video Awards (CMVAs) in the international category for his music video “Bambi”.

On social media, the young kid, who was recently being hunted by the government, asked for support following the unexpected nomination.

“Hey guys I need your support please vote for me I need to bring this award home. Share as much as you can Fresh Kid Nominated In U.S.A Awards – Purple Tv Africa,” he posted. 

Carolina Music Video Awards, which will take place on July 20th this year, is aimed at offering worldwide recognition to artists who deserve to be honored for not only their creative works, but also as hardworking individuals who excel in debuting their talents through visual performance and media.

The nomination also comes just a month after the young singer faced jail terms for his music career.

Uganda’s Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, ordered the kid to stop performing because it’s against the labor laws in the country after learning he had dropped out of school.

In an interview with BBC however, Fresh Kid’s manager said the rapper only performs on weekends and has only had two shows since the start of 2019.
