How Mariah Carey’s Infidelity Inspired the Song My All
Mariah Carey is undoubtedly one of the most talented musicians, with a fan base worldwide. People have used her music to spice up their expression of love. When I was in high school, I dedicated her song “I can’t live without you” to a daughter of Jezebel. It was a lie because I am still living, and so is she
Now excuse the fact that the people of Kirinyaga have a problem pronouncing the name “Mariah.” Please, I beg you, do not report this to her.
I do not think Mariah would be mad at the most fabulous county in the world mispronouncing her name. She is not that innocent, anyway.
Let me tell you why
See, Mariah Carey has written a book called The Meaning of Mariah Carey. It is a 337 paged riveting memoir that opens the lid on the life of a musician who does not see eye to eye with Christina Aguilera.
At 23, Mariah Carey married a guy called Tommy Mottola, who worked as the CEO of Sony Music Entertainment. Mottola had everything a woman would want in a man: looks, fame, and money. In her memoir, Ms. Carey says all that did not make her happy.
I mean, why was she unhappy?
Let us turn to the book and hear it in Mariah’s voice:
“Soon after we tied the knot, Mottola became controlling….It felt like he was cutting off my circulation, keeping me from my friends and what little ‘family’ I had. I couldn’t talk to anyone that wasn’t under Tommy’s control. I couldn’t go out or do anything with anybody. I couldn’t move freely in my own house.”
Isitoshe,
“Many reasonable people questioned why I married Tommy. But none of them questioned the decision more than I did,” she writes.
The controlling nature of Tommy led Mariah Carey to a professional baseball player called Derek Jeter. The two, we read from the memoir, met at a dinner in the ’90s while she was still married. After bonding over having biracial parents, Carey and Jeter exchanged numbers and started sneaking around New York City together.
One night, while Tommy was away on a business trip, Mariah Carey sneaked into Jeter’s apartment. Jeter took her to the rooftop, and the two exchanged saliva. Oh, I mean, the two kissed. And, of course, their unlike poles met.. Or in other words, Jeter felt the warmth behind the wimple.
I wonder why drama produces best-selling music. Look at Adele and her songs. How about Taylor Swift? When women write songs about raw emotions, those songs tend to sell big.
With Mariah Carey, we now know why the Album Butterfly sold like a hot half cake.
In her book, Mariah Carey admits that the song “My All,” which she wrote while married to Tommy and which was in the album Butterfly, was about Derek Jeter. In the song, she talks about risking her life to have a night with Jeter in Puerto Rico. Let us look at the lyrics of the song for confirmation
“I would give my all to have
just one more night with you
I would risk my life to feel
your body next to mine
cause I can’t go on
living in the memory of our song
Butterfly Album has sold over 10 million copies globally
